MLB DFS Strategy for Friday 8/14/15

Season long fantasy sports leagues have been around for decades now and have really revolutionized the way both casual and hardcore sports fans look at the game.  But a more recent adaptation of fantasy sports is the daily fantasy sports (DFS) approach where you are only committed to a single day’s worth of games at a time and can win some serious cash on a daily basis.

***All player salaries reflect DraftKings pricing and the given strategy is more specific toward GPP (guaranteed prize pool) tournaments rather than cash games (head to head, 50/50, etc.).

STRATEGY FOR FRIDAY AUGUST 14, 2015

I like to start my MLB DFS research by checking in on the weather, and check out some tips at The Backwards K on how to utilize the weather when constructing MLB DFS lineups.

As always, check in on the weather at least a couple hours or less before game time to get a better picture of any potential weather concerns, but it’s also good to know if the weather is going to be hot, cold, windy, or humid because these are all factors that could influence our DFS lineup decisions.  Daily Baseball Data is a great spot to get an hour-by-hour forecast of each game. The pitcher plays from Saturday worked out pretty well, but completely whiffed on the stacks as pretty much nothing panned out the way that I felt things should/could. So we’ll try better for Monday’s 10-game slate beginning at 7:05 PM EST/4:05 PM PST. Continue reading

Also, keep in mind that it is a Sunday and lots of regulars (catchers in particular) often get a day of rest for Sunday day games. So be sure to double check starting lineups, and on DraftKings there is the late lineup switch option so that you can substitute players in and out as long as their game hasn’t started yet. PITCHERS

The pitching options for Monday’s 9-game slate aren’t exactly the most riveting. There’s not one particular pitcher that gets my fancy tickled, but there are several pitchers that can surely be given a look. Continue reading

We have a split slate on tap, but in this article I am only going to cover the EARLY SLATE of games.  But keep in mind for the early slate, certain regulars, catchers in particular, may not be in the starting lineup with the day game after night game. PITCHERS

I am not completely enamored with any of the higher priced pitching options on the board tonight, so I think that tonight may be a good opportunity to go with some of the cheaper pitchers to allow more flexibility to include an expensive offensive stack or whatever hitters that you feel comfortable with. STRATEGY FOR MONDAY JULY 20, 2015

I like to start my MLB DFS research by checking in on the weather, and check out some tips at The Backwards K on how to utilize the weather when constructing MLB DFS lineups.

Today’s weather shows chance of thunderstorms in Mets @ Nationals, Cubs @ Reds, Pirates @ Royals, and Rangers @ Rockies.  However, at the writing of this post, I don’t think there is any high threat of any game being postponed like there was in two Southern California games yesterday.  So all hitters should be considered good to go today, but some of the pitchers in the games listed above may carry at least a little risk (because lengthy rain delays could force starting pitchers from the game early).  But as always, check in on the weather at least a couple hours or less before game time to get a better picture of any potential weather concerns.  Daily Baseball Data is a great spot to get an hour-by-hour forecast of each game. ***The primary site that I play on is DraftKings and I am mostly a GPP tournament player (I also play on Fantasy Aces).  So for the most part, any recommendations I make are meant to be for GPP tournaments, not cash games, and are specific to DraftKings (though a lot of the same concepts and picks carry over to strategy on other sites).

STRATEGY FOR WEDNESDAY JULY 8, 2015

There will be some weather situations to monitor across the league, but I anticipate that the weather won’t play too much of a factor in today’s games.  But as always, be sure to check in on the weather before the games start.

It’s been a bit of a tough go as of late on the DFS front, so hopefully Wednesday will be the day that things turn around. But remember, if you are primarily a tournament player like myself, then there is going to be a lot of variance in results from day to day or week to week.  But when we do win, hopefully it’s a big one. STRATEGY FOR MONDAY JULY 6, 2015

There are several games with some chances of storms, but it’s hard to say what may or may not happen at the time of writing this post.  So I am going to deliver the post mostly with no regard for the weather, but as always, just be sure to check on the weather in these games before the slate begins. RECAP OF THURSDAY JULY 2, 2015 (LATE SLATE)

Thursday’s slate didn’t go so well, particularly because none of the offenses I liked hit it too big.  It was the Red Sox offense who owned the night as they blew up Matt Boyd in the 1st inning.  Overall, they ended up with a 12 runs on 19 hits with 2 HR.  I should have seen it coming, or at least done one Red Sox stacked lineup just in case.  It also didn’t help that Chris Young wasn’t able to escape with a win (or many strikeouts) since his offense couldn’t figure out Kyle Gibson.  But it’s a new day now and we’ll try to get some good lineups rolled out for the holiday weekend. STRATEGY FOR THURSDAY JULY 2, 2015 (LATE SLATE)

Weather for Thursday’s 7-game late slate beginning at 4:05 PM PST/7:05 PM EST should mostly be a non-factor.  There is a chance of a thunderstorm in the MIN/KC game, but it shouldn’t be impactful if it comes to fruition.  But the weather in the WAS/ATL game has some winds of 10+ MPH blowing out with a little humidity and an air density index of 58.  So that game may get a slight boost in offense.  Continue reading
